Robbit Industries Cycling Team

Cycling is something we like to do over here at Robbit Industries. Originally used a Trek 1.2 from back in 2011, rode it a lot and did a few events with it. I enjoyed doing duathlons at the time as I was always a good runner. In 2012 I did a local marathon and fractured my leg a few miles into it, I pushed through the pain and still finished up the total distance. The bone density scans came back pretty bad so it was recommended to me by my doctors that I don’t run and I don’t use clipless pedals on my bike anymore. The bike then sat in my basement for nearly 8 years.

Trek 1.2

The old Trek 1.2, it’s upside down because of the lack of a kickstand.

Recently I pulled it out of my basement, got some flat pedals, gave it a good look over and took it for a ride. It was clear that I wasn’t in good shape anymore, I needed to lose weight but I still enjoyed it. So I kept at it, going out for a bit after work every other day. I set myself a goal and if I hit it I would get myself a new bike. I didn’t think I would reach that goal for a few months but I ended up hitting it in a couple weeks. Had an idea of what I wanted, carbon frame, good groupset and something more modern. I decided on a Trek Émonda SL 6, it ticked all the boxes and was a good price. Went to the local bike shop to take a look and they had one sitting right there. We didn’t need to make any adjustments and I took it for a quick ride. It’s a huge improvement over my 1.2 and I bought it.

My new Trek Émonda SL 6. It’s not upside down.

I’ve added a computer, front light and rear light to it, I’ll post about those at a later time. After work I have a 9.2 mile route I do, I set a goal that when I can do it in under 30 minutes I’ll get a Zipp wheelset (Maybe if I get close I’ll still get it). My current best is 31 minutes and 11 seconds. I also had printed up the first version of the Robbit Industries cycling jersey.

Well I suppose that’s all for now.

Companion Cubes

Recently I acquired a 3D printer and I’ve been printing the Companion Cube from portal to dial in my settings.

It’s been working pretty well and prints out quick but they pile up. I decided to print a larger Companion Cube box to store them all in.

The smaller cubes are around 25mm each side and the print time takes between 30 and 40 minutes. The box is around 150mm tall and 175mm on the other side. Printing time on that was 26 and a half hours.

Reinventing Robbit Industries

I’ve decided to use Robbit Industries for my personal tinkering and hobby work. I’ll still be doing custom work as that’s what was working for me. Didn’t really have any business through the storefront so I’ve removed that.

This is just the start of new things to come, stay tuned!
